2016 Australian Tennis Championships – Day 3

Day three of the 2016 Australian Tennis Championships kicked off early in the morning with the Official Players Function. Held at the Parkview Hotel on Melbourne’s St. Kilda Road, players gathered to celebrate another great year of tennis.
We were delighted to once again have our wonderful Patron Steve Moneghetti attend the Players Function. Steve welcomed players, families, staff and others to the official gathering, and spoke of his ongoing commitment to Sport Inclusion Australia and the work that we do. His genuine passion for inclusion together with his love for sport makes Steve the perfect person to lead our organisation into the future.
The annual Mark Koning’s Memorial Shield was presented by Sport Inclusion Australia’s CEO Robyn Smith during the function. “Mark was a terrific tennis player who competed in the National event from 2000 to 2010. He sadly passed away unexpectedly in 2010, and to mark his wonderful contribution to tennis as a role model and ambassador, Tennis Australia and Sport Inclusion have established this annual award to acknowledge a player for outstanding Sportsmanship and Leadership” The 2016 winner of the award was David Burke, a deserving winner voted for by his peers.
