Five Athletes Set to Represent Australia at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Across T20 & S14 Events

As competition begins at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games (23 July – 2 August, 2026), we’re proud to celebrate the five athletes with an intellectual impairment who have been selected to represent Australia on the international stage across T20 and S14 events.

Competing across Para Athletics and Para Swimming, these athletes have earned the opportunity to wear the green and gold after years of dedication, training and perseverance. Their selection is an important milestone not only in their own sporting journeys, but also for the continued visibility of athletes with an intellectual impairment at the highest levels of competition.

Australian Para Athletics

Lindsey Hendy – Men’s Long Jump T20
Representing Australia in the Men’s Long Jump T20, Lindsey continues an international career built on determination and consistency. From discovering athletics as a young child in Townsville to now making his Commonwealth Games debut, Lindsey’s journey reflects decades of commitment to his sport.

Archie Hewett – Men’s 1500m T20
Middle-distance runner Archie Hewett will compete in the Men’s 1500m T20 at his first Commonwealth Games. Hailing from Mornington, Victoria, Archie’s athletics journey began in primary school through cross country and has since worked hard to build a successful athletics career. In 2025, he represented Australia at the Virtus World Athletics Championships.

Daniel Milone – Men’s 1500m T20
Daniel Milone will line up alongside fellow Victorian Archie Hewett in the Men’s 1500m T20. Daniel has continued to build his middle-distance career through consistent performances, to earning his selection and debut for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He’s previously represented Australia at the Virtus Asia Oceania Games, held in Brisbane in 2022.

Australian Para Swimming

Jack Ireland PLY – Men’s 200m Freestyle S14
Jack Ireland returns to the Commonwealth Games in the Men’s 200m Freestyle S14. A Paralympian and World Championship medallist, Jack also represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022 and brings a wealth of international experience to the Australian team.

Madeleine (Maddie) McTernan PLY – Women’s 200m Freestyle S14
Maddie McTernan will represent Australia in the Women’s 200m Freestyle S14 at her second Commonwealth Games. Maddie has gone on to become a Paralympian and mader her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham 2022. Alongside her high-performance swimming career, Maddie also demonstrates her leadership as a representative on the Virtus Athlete Council.
